Journey to the Center of the Earth- my final entry

They are being lifted out of the volcano by a volcanic goo.  This makes me wonder how the firey goo does not burn the wooden raft.  While floating up, they see a crack of daylight, their first in months, and it gives them hope.  I was overjoyed when they saw daylight.  They go out the top of a volcano and hike down the mountain.  While at the bottom, they pick some grapes and olives.  The place is hot, and very green and medditeranean like.  I belived that it was Burma.  I was wrong.  Soon a young boy shows up and they ask him in many languages where they are before him answering in Italian sayin "Stromboli!" then running away.  Stromboli is a place in southern Italy.  So they take a few boats and their journey is ended.  This book is very descriptive and you can really picture the scenes.  Another good thing is that it is exciting when near the climax.  A bad thing is the beginning is very slow and a little boring.  Overall this is a very good book.

Journey to the Center of the Earth- entry 6

I believe that this part of the book is the climax.  Or at least the begining of it.  They are puzzled by the skeleton and so am I.  The team also found a dagger in the cave and that gave me the immediate clue that Saknussemm was in that same spot.  So they take the cave that was thought to be the same way taken by Saknussemm and find a dead end.  This puzzled me that if it was a dead end he could not have taken that route.  So they make a cavity in the wall and fill it with gunpowder.  Then Harry lights the wick and runs to the sea and joins his Uncle and Hans on the boat.  The explosion caused an abyss to appear in the water.  This part really caught me off gaurd.  The abyss sucks them in and they freefall fo a couple hours before landing softly suprisingly.  Now they are being drove up and soon go out the top of a volcano.  How would youlike to freefall?

Journey to the Center of the Earth- entry 5

This book is still good but I did not find it as interesting as the last five chapters.  They start off in the raft still floating along in the sea when they see a large spray of water off in the distance.  They believe it is a large whale but as they approach it the explorers realize that it is an island and the water is a geyser.  So they spend the night there and then continue on their journey.  I am uneasy because I believe that it is an animal.  While at sea the next day, they encounter a large storm and somehow end up on more land.  They check their compass and realize tha it is pointing North meaning that the storm reversed their journey.  The explorers were very angry and so was I.  While on the island the explorers find a whole human skeleton and that caught me off gaurd.  They are puzzled where it came from and so am I.  This book is almost over and I hope it has a very good climax.  Don't you?  Chapters 31-35

Journey to the Center of the Earth- entry 4

This books plot is moving very fast and once again has become a great book.  Hans and the professer came and find Harry in the beggining in the labyrinth.  This part made me very happy that Harry was saved.  They then treat his wounds and he gets rest for a day.  They continue walking and spot a vast sea with a forest of 40 foot tall mushrooms.  This event caught me off gaurd.  It is teeming with life and is lush.  Their guide Hans makes a raft and plans to go to the sea. So they set off, going at a very rapid pace, travelling almost 30 leagues in 24 hours.  They got hungry so they went fishing and caught a fish that was supposedly extinct millions of years ago.  Hans catches many of these exotic fish and soon spots large turtles and serpents.  These animals are huge and larger than islands which awed me.  While on the raft, two serpent like creatures start viciously before diving underwater.  The dead ones body just floats on the top of the water.  I would love to see this fight.  Would you like to read this exciting book? Chapters 21-25

Original Centaur Myth

The centaur is the cause of why we have thunder.  First centaurs were kind and brainless and did whatever they were told.  They were under the control of Zues.  One day when Zues was sleeping, the Roman's almighty god, Athemis, snuck into his temple and took all of the centaurs.  They tried to kill Zues but since he was the most powerful god, he could only be killed with his own lightning bolt.  The Roman goddess tried but was unsuccessful.  Since the centaurs were brainless and could not think for themselves, they controlled them and made them vicious warriors.  The Romans prepared the centaurs for they greatest battle ever.  When the centaurs were in the trojan war fighting for the Romans, they were about to win when Zues banished them to his kingdom of the sky.  They were in an eternal war with Zues and his army.  They still run across the sky in the clouds but could only be heard where there was a storm.  Thunder is the sound of their hooves running away and dodging Zues' deadly lightning blots.  The centaurs can never win this etternal war but niether can Zues.  Eventually they signed a treaty saying that they would never fight again.  Today, the sound of thunder is caused by centaurs running across the sky hunting for their food.
The End.

Journey to the Center of the Earth- entry 3

Journey to the Center of the Earth- entry 3

This book is getting very exciting and I have trouble putting it down at times.  As these explorers continue on their journey, they realize they are 21 miles deep and 150 miles away from Mount Sneffels.  With this information, they concluded that they were somewhere underneath the Atlantic Ocean.  Then they take the next Sunday off and then continue on their journey.  While walking, Henry realizes that his companions are nowhere to be seen.  Henry is really scared and I think this event is very shocking.  He wanders in the endless labyrinth for three days before hering his uncle's precious voice.  They are over 3 miles apart.  So they use sound waves to contact each other and they come to his rescue while he is unconscious.  This book is really great.  Don't you wonder how they got so far apart?  I do.  Chapters 21-25

Journey to the Center of the Earth- entry 2

The plot of this book is still rather slow but it has picked up since last time.  Now the Professer and his nephew,  Henry,  ( yes it was just mentioned.) along with Hans continue on their journey to the center of the Earth.  They first hike up Mount Sneffels and soon reach the top.  As the parchment read before, the sun will cast a shadow on the abbyss at midday near the end of July.  The shadow made an exact point of where to descend.  So they set up ropes and climb down, shifting the rope 28 times before reaching the bottom.  They have decsended over one mile before hitting solid ground.  Once there, they wander through giant rooms and through an Eastern bound tunnel before running out of water.  So they head back to the fork where they turned of towars the East and tried going West before Henry can no longer take the dehydration.  As he is lying on the ground unconsicous but alive,  Hans goes through the western tunnel and hears a river of water but it is separated by a wall of rock.  So they wait until Henry has enough energy to walk to the torrent and then Hans started hitting the wall with a crowbar.  Finally after an hour of work, the wall finally cracked spewing out water hard.  Henry in disstress stuck his head in the water realizing it was near boiling.  Now they have a large ammount of water but it is hot.  So they just let it cool before drinking.  This is as far as they got in these chaopters.

Centaurs

Centaur

The centaur is a horse body with a human torso sprouting from the horse's neck. Centaurs appear in greek mythology. Some centaurs were well learned and taught some great heroes while others were drunk and vicious warriors. The first centaurs were born from Ixion and Nephele. They lived in Thessaly near Eastern Greece.

Most centaurs were vicious and described as scary forces of nature. The personality of the average centaur was ungentle and mean. They were vey quick and speedy in battle and were excellent with a bow and arrow. The weakness of a centaur is they follwed Dionysus, the God of Wine, so they loved to get drunk and could be defeated easily if so.
Perhaps the most famous centaur of all was Chiron, a centaur who tutored many Greek Mythology heroes.  He was the gentlest, wise and most well learned centaur of them all.  He tutored heroes such as Aesculapius and Hercules.  When Chiron died, Zues placed his picture in the night sky by stars and gave him the constellation Sagittarius.
Centaurs appear in 21st century media in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series of books.  Also in the movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone when Harry and his friends come along a group of centaurs in the forest.  Centaurs also appear in the movie, The Chronicles of Narnia.  As you can see centaurs were vicious beasts except for the exception of Chiron, were a horse body and a human torso and lived in Thessaly.

Journey to the Center of the Earth- entry 1

In Journey to the Center of the Earth, the plot starts out very slow in Professer Hardwigg's lab in England. He is said to be the most well learned professer in all of Europe. One day while he was in his lab, he discovered a piece of paper that read, Descend into the crater Yocul of Sneffels which the shade of Scartaris caresses before the kalends of July audacious traveler and you will reach the center of the Earth. I did it. Arne Saknussemm. With this information he and his nephew,(his name is never mentioned since it is written in first person with him being the main character) travel by boat to Iceland and set out on an embarking journey with their strong and trusty guide Hans. On their way to Mount Sneffels, they stop in Gardar at Hans' relatives house. They offer much hospitality before moving on. This book has a great start and looks to lead in a good direction. Chapters 1-10
